As a real estate professional, you must be like Mary Poppins and be prepared for anything and everything. Of course, you’ll require pens and your super key…
However, being at peak real estate preparedness extends much beyond that!
After all, you’re in and out of the office all day, seeing homes that may be vacant or in remote places – anything may happen!
Here is a list of items that every agent MUST have on hand (and a few things that are just plain nice to have).
THE MUST HAVES
Water
This goes without saying. You’ve been walking about and chatting all day; you’re going to be PARCHED. Bring lots of water with you. Bring some for your thirsty clients while you’re at it. They’ll look at you like you’re a hero!
Paper Towels
Paper towels may be used for anything from cleaning up muddy footprints to handing your client’s child a wet paper towel so they don’t smear their jelly-covered hands on the listing’s pristine, white sofa (why do they always have white sofas?!). Keep a roll in your vehicle kit and see how many applications you can come up with.
Toilet Tissue
I’m sure you don’t need me to explain to you what to do with toilet paper! I also know that if you forget this, you’ll be extremely upset soon enough, so it has to be included in the list. (And a Pro Tip? Before allowing someone to use the restroom, make sure the water is turned on.)
No Paperwork
Mistakes happen, so double-check your documents. Also, you never know who you’ll meet, so carry extra documents just in case. You never know when you’ll need to create a new client on the spot!
Refreshments
What are your odds of getting back to the workplace, home, or even a restaurant for your three square meals a day? The answer is zero. Pack healthful, non-perishable snacks for those days when you need to eat on the run.
Swiss Army Knife
Prepare yourself as a Boy Scout. A small or medium Swiss Army knife may come in handy in a variety of scenarios, from tightening a screw to opening a bottle of wine (hey, you never know!). Get one of these instead if you don’t want to carry a whole tool set. (If you DO want to take a tool kit, keep reading… you’ll find out what it requires!)
Tape Measure
One of the things that customers say that makes agents cringe the most? “This home is ABSOLUTELY PERFECT, and it literally has everything I’ve ever desired!” However, my grandmother’s china cabinet might not fit…” Stop that problem in its tracks and show them how you can easily fit the beloved Granny’s valuable relic in a position of honor by carrying a measuring tape.
