When you find that a driver is not taking any precautions and causing trouble on the site, you must identify and give them the warning to stop doing so. If they are still on the old route then fire them immediately and leave them under review.
You can also use some quality measures in your fleet to measure the work ethics of a driver as:
Good: those who perform well and follow all the protocols of operating a fleet of equipment.
Better: Those who are more than good and perform a little extra caution on the site with the equipment.
Best: Those who are perfectly acceptable in all aspects. They take care of everything and make sure the equipment is well before running it.
The pre-qualification test of the drivers is necessary to take before hiring any driver for your fleet. In this test, you must check their history with the automobile vehicle and see the records. If you found anything unusual, avoid choosing them.
Classify the risky drivers into groups
Once you identify the risky drivers, group them according to their level of efficiency. You can categorize them into four groups:
Level 1: the one who has occasionally done one or two collisions. They might have done equipment violations.
Level 2: those who have done more than 2 to 4 infractions and violated the policies multiple times. They may also have violated the traffic rules.
Level 3: These are the ones who have done serious violations including traffic rules, equipment operating policies, and others.
Level 4: those drivers who have continuously been violating the rules after multiple warnings. They must be labeled as not recommended and should be fired immediately.
Make a fleet safety policy
Once you have done with the prior actions, now set the safety policy for your fleet. It is very important to have a separate and rigid policy for your business. In this policy, you can also make it compulsory to take training for your drivers. Initiate different programs of training in which the levels and safety courses can be provided them. teach them how to use the used heavy equipment for sale, and how to keep them safe during and after the operation.
